Increased Fire Loss Revenue and Efficiency Using Soda Works Equipment

Sunglo Disaster Restoration took on a 2,724 sq. ft. residential fire loss project, the job required full interior smoke damage cleanup, from exposed framing to attic joists.

By choosing Soda Works soda blasting equipment, the team delivered top-tier results both faster and more profitably than with other common methods.

Deploying our purpose‑built equipment and media, they not only met the stringent insurance‑backed scope but did so in three days with just two technicians, generating a 85% margin.

Full Interior Fire & Smoke Damage Remediation

The Challenge

Property Size

2,724 sq. ft.

Project Scope

Soda blasting required on floors, walls, joists, and attic. Post-blasting cleanup, bagged and broomed.

Approved Estimate

$25,671.59 (insurance-backed)

Traditional methods risk higher costs, longer completion time's and other risks. Sunglo needed a fast, effective, and surface-safe solution—Soda Works delivered.

What About Sponges and Dry Ice?
Topical Wet‑Spray or Chemical Sponges

Topical smoke‑damage remediation on wood and concrete may seem straightforward—chemical sponges or low‑pressure detergent washes (e.g., TSP or mild soap) are applied with brushes, sponges, or sprayers—but the method carries inherent shortcomings. Every wet application soaks into wood substrates, risking swelling, tannin bleed‑through, and finish degradation, while concrete’s porous matrix traps moisture.

Immediate rinsing followed by extensive air‑movement or dehumidification is required to prevent secondary damage, yet residual dampness often persists in hidden voids. Moreover, smoke particulates embed deeply within surface pores, demanding repeated cycles of dry‑chemical sponging, detergent wash‑and‑rinse, HEPA‑vacuuming, and pressure rinsing—sometimes three or more passes—to approach a truly clean substrate. Each iteration compounds labor costs, prolongs workspace staging, and extends overall project duration, making this approach both time‑ and resource‑intensive for restoration professionals.

Soda Works soda blasting deodorizes while it removes smoke and mold. The efficiency of the machine means 80% less dust than traditional media blasters. Soda Works ensures lower operational costs, lower labor costs, higher productivity, and less risk. Do jobs faster and more profitable then every before.

Dry Ice Blasting

Dry‑ice blasting mostly eliminates secondary blasting media—dry ice sublimates on contact—but its consumable costs run $1–$3 per pound of CO₂ pellets, so cleaning a modest room (say 50–100 lbs of ice) can mean $50–$300 in media alone while Soda Works Equipment would do the same area with a media cost of just $20-$60. Because the pellets turn to gas, you must ensure robust ventilation (per OSHA and CO₂‐safety guidelines) and monitor for asphyxiation hazards, and operators need insulated gloves, face shields, and hearing protection to prevent frostbite and noise injury.

Although there’s no solid “spent” media to sweep up, the process knocks soot, char, and other debris off surfaces, generating a fine slurry of contaminants that must be contained—so you still need drop‑cloths, HEPA‑vacuuming, and bagging of waste particulates. And while dry ice is generally non‑abrasive, if used at too high a pressure or on delicate substrates (e.g., thin drywall paper facings, soft woods), it can cause surface pitting or delamination.

This combination of higher per‑pound cost, ventilation and PPE demands, debris‑cleanup requirements, and potential for over‑aggressive impact makes dry‑ice blasting more complex—and often more expensive—than many contractors initially expect.

Soda Works Equipment & Media

The Solution

The Sunglo team used our professional-grade soda blasting system to complete the project efficiently with only:

  • 2 technicians over 3 days
  • Single soda blaster setup
  • Minimal protective and cleanup materials

Soda Works’ Soda Blasting Delivers:

Soda Works’ Soda Blasting Delivers:

Highly increased productivity many times faster than alternatives.

80% less soda for minimal cleanup and maximum visibility

No scrubbing or difficulty in corners, edges, and hard to reach areas.

Simple broom and bag cleanup for most projects, HEPA vacuum cleanup with no special disposal permits for the others.

All together, that means less labor, lower material and disposal costs, and faster project turnaround.

Equipment & Media Used

  • Soda Works BB100 Soda Blasting Mobile Professional System: Our U.S.A.-made blast system features a patented self‑cleaning venturi and integrated metering system, engineered to prevent line blockages and deliver precise, continuous blasting – ideal for interior framing, drywall, and attic timbers.

  • Air Supply: A mobile compressor rated at 210 CFM @ 150 psi, ensuring smooth operation of the BB100 pot.

  • Nozzle & Pressure: #4 (¼″) dry nozzle at 125 psi—optimized for deep crevice cleaning without substrate etching.

  • Media Used - Natrium Blasting Soda 260: Food‑grade sodium bicarbonate, 50 lbs/bag at $39 each. Specifically graded (300 μm average) for fire restoration and odor neutralization, this media penetrates porous surfaces and deodorizes as it cleans.
